The Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI), Liberia's leading institution for agricultural innovation and sustainability, recently celebrated a series of significant logistical advancements. These contributions mark a step forward in empowering the institute to carry out its critical mission of supporting agricultural development across the nation.

Under the Rural Economic Transformation Project (RETRAP), the management of CARI proudly received three versatile tricycles, designed to streamline operations, improve mobility, and enhance access to remote agricultural sites. Adding to this momentum, the Feed The Future Project—an initiative generously funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)—provided a Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep. This robust vehicle is expected to bolster CARI’s field capabilities, enabling efficient transportation for research activities and stakeholder engagement.

Earlier in April, CARI further expanded its logistical arsenal with the acquisition of three Yamaha motorcycles and a Toyota double-cabin pickup. These valuable contributions were courtesy of AfricaRice, a key partner in Liberia's agricultural transformation. These resources are specifically dedicated to facilitating the successful implementation of the Seeds4Liberia Project, which operates out of CARI’s research station in Suakoko, Bong County. The additional equipment is instrumental in reaching rural farmers and advancing the institute's goal of building resilient seed systems.

Dr. Arthur Bob Karnuah, CARI’s Director General and staff, expressed gratitude for these timely contributions, underscoring their importance in addressing logistical challenges. “The newly acquired vehicles and motorcycles will not only enhance day-to-day operations but also enable CARI to extend its reach and impact in fostering sustainable agricultural practices throughout Liberia,” Dr. Karnuah said.

With these new assets, CARI is well-positioned to continue its pivotal role in supporting Liberian farmers, strengthening agricultural research, and contributing to the nation’s food security and economic development.
